Fact-Checking Policy

Factual claims in our articles should be supported by appropriate sources. Writers are responsible for the accuracy of their work, and editors review articles before publication with a level of scrutiny suited to the nature of the content.

Depending on the claim, appropriate support may include:

• manufacturer specifications and documentation
• published industry test standards and methods
• guidance and data from government agencies
• direct observation or hands-on use, described as such

Manufacturer claims are attributed as claims. Where we cannot verify a figure independently, we say where it comes from. Our review process is not a guarantee that every article is free of error; when errors occur, we correct them under our Corrections Policy.
